Okay, one of my employees deleted a file on the Network Drive I have, on accident. It doesn't goto a Recycling Bin or anything it just *poofs* is gone... how can I retrieve it!

I know there are softwares/etc... but anything cheaper or relatively easy to do? It's an excel file that has a ton of info... very important.

Grab the files you need from that network drive and turn it off to preserve you chances of file recovery. You need a competent tech to ensure you will not lose your file forever while attempting recovery. You are looking to spend a couple of hundred on this. If you do not have a trusty competent local tech then get help from ontrack.com.

There are three important things when it comes to computers:
1) backup
2) backup
3) backup

get a program called ERD Commander 2005, boot off of it and when you get in... go to "retrieve deleted items"...

I retrieved an entire server that was in RAID 5 with this program.

data is right tho, pull the drive out/turn off

This just cannot help anyhow.

yeah, i thought about it... but i'm pretty sure it wouldn't work.

Thanks for your suggestions... all of you! Good news is... i DO have a backup... just 10 days old. I do a decent amount of business in 10 days as I send around $1M/yearly and sell almost $1M in airline tickets--located in these excel files

That software is expensive if obtained legally.

Yes, ERD comes with Data Recovery component but just running ANY software will not help here. You are missing a point that while this type of software can be used to recover data on the local hard drives here we are dealing with a network drive.

Data,

what if i take the network drive and plug it into my pc? i'm guessing that will have no different affect and well have no progress but i thought i'd ask you instead.

That would be a step in right direction. Hopefully, Windows can read that drive as local and if it does you can run data recovery software, there are even some free titles available for download. If you are willing to risk accidental data loss then you can do that yourself with fairly good chances of that file recovery.
